- Avatars - you earn money with your band/solo tour and can buy yourself clothes, haircuts, makeup, jewelry, tattoos...
- The singing.
- The social aspect. I wonder how many packs of boys do a "band tour" together.

- I think, and this is a terrible, broad generalization, that a lot of girls in my generation grew up wanting to be a rock star. Jem anyone? A lot of the shows at that point involved annoying tweeny teens singing (Kids Incorporated? Mickey Mouse Club?).

I think your last point is spot-on. I never would have thought of it, but of course I wanted to be a rock star. There were even rock star barbies (which we had, I believe).
ReplyDeleteIt's also sort of a girl game because there's no violence. There's not even really strategy involved. I know that's terribly stereotypic, but I do think most girls would rather not play games involving blood baths. Or maybe that's just me.
I don't think it's a "girls" game at all. I think its one of the few "hit" video games that can be enjoyed by all. No blood, no gore. It's air guitar taken to the next level.
ReplyDeleteOooh Barbie and The Rockers! I had the whole band including the stage and rock instruments. I even had a Jem doll too, although she was not my favorite doll because she was too big for Barbie clothes.
